Harvest Monday - February 27, 2012

It's nearly the end of the month so it seems like a good time to catch up on my Harvest Monday posts. These photos will look familiar if you've stopped by lately since the have featured in my latest posts. I've not been taking photos of each harvest so these will have to do, but I have been keeping a running tally of my harvests and you can read the totals below.

Flamingo Chard

Purple Sprouting Broccoli

I prepared the broccoli last night by first blanching and shocking it to get rid of the aphids (not too many and no cabbage worms either), then I sauteed some chopped Meyer lemon peel, chopped salted capers, dried Espelette pepper flakes, chopped garlic, and dried oregano in a little bit of olive, added the broccoli and a splash of water and braised the broccoli until it was tender and served it with a squeeze of lemon juice (Meyer of course) and a drizzle of Olio Nuovo. My husband darn near licked the bowl clean. How many of you have to fight your spouse to get your fair share of the broccoli?

Pixie Cabbage

Here's the harvest totals for the past three weeks:

Purple Sprouting broccoli - 16.2 oz.
Pixie cabbage - 9 lb., 6.5 oz.
Flamingo chard - 12.5 oz.
Lacinato kale - 1 lb., 10.3 oz.
Ear of the Devil lettuce - 2 oz.

Harvest Monday is hosted by Daphne on her blog Daphne's Dandelions, head on over there to see what other garden bloggers have been harvesting lately.

  3. I'm growing flamingo chard as well, it's so pretty. I don't have any luck with purple sprouting broccoli, maybe I should try to grow it in the fall instead, I always have problems with spring brassicas except turnips.

  4. Now I want broccoli so that I can make that dish! I only planted seedlings last week so I may be waiting a while.

  5. I planted my purple sprouting broccoli much later than I normally do so not sure it's going to do much. Usually I start in Aug and by now the plants are 3 foot bushes. well, there's always next year!

Your harvests look delicious - but the pink chard is just gorgeous to look at. So pretty.
