Mine, on the other hand, are not doing well at all - I just spoke to someone on the farm and they said that all of theirs are not doing well either, attributing it to the heat & dryness.Margarethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15949946977793864054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-439775590468820468.post-85878948686950851452016-07-25T09:55:46.140-07:002016-07-25T09:55:46.140-07:00I don't get them into the garden until the col...I don't get them into the garden until the cold weather sets in so I don't think it's because they've gone from warm to cold to warm. I'm pretty sure it's because of our weird weather patterns here where we can have very warm spells in the late winter and spring and then we get a shift to foggy and cool weather in May and June - so they go from cold to warm to cold, a Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07812702328134261533noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-439775590468820468.post-53298608486132244322016-07-25T09:19:06.812-07:002016-07-25T09:19:06.812-07:00You did get some nice size onions. I wonder if the bolting has to do with your setting out plants in the fall. Are your mild winters cold enough to make the onions think spring is year two?David Veltenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07710293718143454000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-439775590468820468.post-31957523644192929042016-07-25T08:11:51.870-07:002016-07-25T08:11:51.870-07:00Hi Ngeun! They have done very well for me. I think you're right about onions not liking change, the weather here was more erratic last year and bolting was definitely more of a problem then.Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07812702328134261533noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-439775590468820468.post-49318530433919944322016-07-24T23:55:09.463-07:002016-07-24T23:55:09.463-07:00Hi Michelle, I'm a new fan of your blog. Thanks very much for sharing the beauty of your garden. I'm very glad to have found your wonderful blog. Please keep up the great work. Best wishes. :)Ngeunhttp://ngeun.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-439775590468820468.post-14441732314747168592016-07-23T10:54:45.298-07:002016-07-23T10:54:45.298-07:00I have almost no experience with growing onions - ...I have almost no experience with growing onions - I have had shallots a couple of times though, and they did OK. From what I can gather, onions are pretty tricky to get right. Everyone says that bolting is an issue these days, due to less predictable, and highly erratic, weather patterns. Onions just don't seem to like change! Anyway, I'm going to have a try and see what happens.
