Harvest Monday - 11/2/09

November already and it's Harvest Monday hosted by Daphne on her blog Daphne's Dandelions. It's slowing down out in my veggie garden but I'm still harvesting a respectable amount.

Piracicaba broccoli shoots and Diamond eggplants. I harvested 2 bunches of broccoli like the bunch shown below.

And a box of mixed vegetables. Some of the last tomatoes (mostly Hillbilly and Gigantesque), a few Marconi Purple sweet peppers, three Aji Angelo chile peppers, 1 Rocotillo chile pepper, a couple Palace King cucumbers and a lot of Thai Round Petch Parisa eggplants, and Lao Purple Stripe eggplants. My husband isn't crazy about the Thai and Lao type eggplants so I pretty much stripped the plants and will be taking them out soon.

I got home late yesterday afternoon from a weekend in The City and headed out to the garden to harvest some things before it got dark. None of it got photographed, most of it went pretty much straight from the garden to the dinner table. So not shown was the second bunch of broccoli, about 1/2 pound of Pimento de Padrons (the second harvest for the week), and a large handful of Kefe Beinwil snow peas. The basil is still happy so I've also picked numerous sprigs of it.

The snow peas were good with toasted pumpkin seeds and pomegrante seeds and a drizzle of balsamico.

  1. You are getting snow peas! I did fall snow peas last year, but they didn't produce for very long, so this year I didn't. I miss them. It is a real dilemma whether to plant them or not. I have to rip out the spring peas early or they won't grow big enough on time. Maybe I'll figure out a way to do it.

  4. Hi Michelle, I grew up in a traditional Vietnamese household and we used to grow those small round eggplants every year. We would steep them in a salt water brine and eat them as a pickle at dinner. OH how I miss having them in the garden!
