Three
turkey vultures swooshed in this morning and obligingly hung out long enough for some photos. Not that I was able to get the best shots, but they're good enough to share. They are quite common around here but they don't generally hang out around the garden and I've never seen them so close to the house.
A friend had this happen. About a week later a dead deer was found nearby. I wrote about it here: http://janestrong.blogspot.com/2014/10/garden-visitors.html.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope the predicted rain does you some good ... not too much, not too little.
I wonder if something died on the hillside somewhere. I think the only place I've seen a turkey vulture is in the Grand Canyon.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a turkey vulture before - that wing span is incredible!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! They are pretty common around here too. I used to see them a lot at work, where our plant was way out in the country and we would often see them soaring on the thermals, looking for something dead. They are really an amazing bird, serving a great role in a 'cleanup' position.
ReplyDeleteApparently they are showing up in unusual places right now. This morning's newpaper had an article about it.
