Harvest Monday - January 1, 2018

Welcome to Harvest Monday. I'm stepping in for Dave of Our Happy Acres as the temporary host of Harvest Monday for the month of January while he takes a much deserved break from the task of hosting every week. Harvest Monday is where we celebrate all things harvest related. This is the place to share your latest harvests and what you've been doing with them. If you would like to link up you will find Mr. Linky at the end of this post.

It was a slow week in the garden with just a couple of harvests but enough to bump the harvest total for 2017 over 1000 pounds.

The Special Baby Leaf chard did for the most part produce small tender leaves even though I hadn't harvested any for a number of weeks. I sautéed it with some ground bacon ends, garlic, tomato paste, and some of the smoky fermented pepper paste that I mentioned in my post about my experiments with Fermented Peppers. Delish!

And I gleaned more tomatoes that survived the 30ºF nights of the previous week. Still pretty tasty too.

The grand total of the harvests for 2017 came to 1003.9 pounds (455.3 kg.). You can see a spreadsheet of the harvests by variety and month HERE.

If you have a harvest you want to show off then enter a link to your post below.

Happy New Year everyone!

  1. Wow, I can't believe you're still picking tomatoes! I might have to start a spreadsheet to track the veggies I pick, I always seem to forget to sow something and miss it - no okra for me this year because I forgot to plant :(

    1. It's been a weird year, I too can't believe that I'm still picking tomatoes! Not much longer though. The spreadsheet is handy, especially for year to year comparisons. I also keep separate notes on what I sow and when each month which is great for helping to plan the garden.

  2. You are so organized with that harvest spreadsheet! I'm doing good to remember to weigh and record mine. I'm sure the 1000+ pounds of goodies has kept you busy, and well fed. Happy New Year to you and thanks again for hosting!

    1. Oh yes, I know you are kept just as busy and well fed by your productive garden too. The spreadsheet is pretty easy once it's set up. Now I just have to make a copy, wipe out the data, and start over again for 2018. Happy New Year and enjoy your winter break!

  3. You have beaten me by a week with tomatoes. Ours survive -3.2C just over 28F.

    1. It didn't get quite that cold here so my plants are still hanging in there, barely, so I'll have to finish them off myself.

  6. Amazing that you still harvested some lovely tomatoes, and even more amazing that they still tasted good. Over 1000 lbs is incredible...I sometimes wonder how much I harvest....hmm will this be the year to give a go?

  7. Absolutely amazing haul! We have a new garden this year so nothing but eggs from the hens coming in at the moment (and as I don't lay them I think it'd be tricky to claim them as harvest!). Bring on summer...!
