A Past Garden Revisited

I was feeling nostalgic for one of my old gardens today so I dredged up a few photos to share. My husband and I lived in that house for about 15 years and gradually transformed the quarter-acre suburban property from a heavily shaded overgrown jungle to my little garden paradise. It was difficult giving up the garden, but the couple that purchased the house wanted it in large part because of the garden, so I felt better about passing it on to people who would love it as much as I did. It was worth giving up that garden because I doubled my garden space and gained year-round sun in the vegetable garden. We also got to enjoy a much more quiet and country-like environment. Anyway, here's a blast from the past.

The little scarecrows were a gift from my husband.

The pittosporum hedge in the back was a bear to maintain
but afforded us a lot of privacy.

An old friend who is no longer with us.
I still miss you Mr. J.

I had more flowering plants.
No deer, no gophers, back then.

  1. Lovely garden! I can see how you would hate to give it up. I, too, have been nostalgic for a past garden.

  2. It looks beautiful. I think all garden bloggers understand how you feel about leaving it.

  4. Wonderful garden! We bought our house from keen gardeners and we thank them and talk about them when we are out there working. They came back for a visit a year after the sale and we all had dinner on the deck, enjoying the May blooms. I bet the current custodians of your garden are singing your praises too!
