Zucchini da Fiori, a variety that is supposed to produce more male blossoms for those of us who love to eat the blossoms as much as, or perhaps more than, the zucchini themselves.
As you can see, the less prolific nature of this variety is more than made up for by the size of the individual zucchinis. Does it matter if one of these babies doesn't get pollinated?
I wonder what would happen if one of these got left on the plant for a week? I hope I don't find out . . .
Wow, that's a big baby!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is big indeed!
ReplyDeleteWhat a very interesting variety. This is what I really like about your gardens, such a diverse group of vegetable varieties that I have never heard of. I showed my wife your tart recipe and she is very excited to try it.
ReplyDeletemac and meemsync, I picked it just a few hours after I took the photo and it weighed in at 5 ounces already.
ReplyDeleteMr. H., I do love to experiment with different varieties. It doesn't always work out, but it's fun. I do hope you like the tart.
Smokes!
ReplyDeletePlease let one go to find out how big it grows.
That is quiet a large zuke for this stage. Very impressive. I would harvest it just like that. Best of both worlds in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a prolific plant in many ways. I am not a big fan of squash flowers for eating - just not that into the taste/texture but this plant seems to do it all which is pretty sweet.
ReplyDeleteMaybelline, should I accidentally let one of those go I'll be sure to post a picture, but I'm going to do my best to not let that happen :) Whew, I imagine one could feed a family of four with leftovers . . .

Thomas, I've been harvesting them at the end of the day after the blossom has closed but before it dies. I get a nice zucchini plus a blossom, it is the best of both worlds. And I've been getting a few male blossoms almost every day. Yum.

kitsapFG, It is sweet, so far, but I suspect that if the plant stays happy that it could take over that area. Super zuke indeed.
You could canoe maybe?
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty huge! If you left it a week you could hallow it out and use it as a boat.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting feature for a zucchini plant! I should try to find seed for it because we love to eat the blossoms and this year my plants seem to be into making mostly female flowers. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteStefaneener, stuffed zucanoe?
ReplyDelete---
Dan, you and Stefaneener must have been on the same wavelength.
