And likewise for the fennel, this bulb was growing so fast that it was starting to split so I cut it.

And I'll be harvesting a lot of celery in the next week or so because it too is starting to bolt. I used some of this harvest in a salad that has become a favorite, crunchy celery with dates, parmesan, and toasted almonds with a lemony vinaigrette.

And I pulled the last of the rutabagas because their tops were totally infested with aphids.

That was it for the week. Harvest Monday is hosted by Dave on his blog Our Happy Acres, head on over there to see what other garden bloggers have been harvesting lately.
The kalettes are certainly attractive. How does the taste compare to kale or Br. sprouts? I am wondering if it might be a good crop for overwintering in the greenhouse.
ReplyDeleteThe kalettes are mild tasting, more like kale than Brussels sprouts, less cabbagy than Brussels sprouts. One thing I like about them is that since I cook them whole there's a mix of textures, the stems retain some crunch while the leaflets become tender. We love them.
DeleteMy celery is beginning to bolt too and the flavor is too strong for a lunch accompaniment, however it is still good for cooking. Your salad sounds worth a try, next year. This is the transition time, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThe garden is changing quickly now indeed.
DeleteThat celery salad sounds delicious - I'll definitely have to give it a go (with shop bought celery, unfortunately).
ReplyDeleteIt will still be good!
