Harvest Monday - April 29, 2019

It was another week of very light harvests, but at least there was a harvest of something that wasn't planted last year. The first of the winter sown lettuces landed in the harvest basket. It was wonderful to have a very simple green salad with some tender young lettuce.

But then I went back to overwintered stuff with some very ugly carrots. These definitely spent too much time in the garden. And I know now that October is not the time to sow carrots. These were ok once I scrubbed and trimmed them and they have been fine grated into salads.

    I’m sure the ugly carrots tasted just fine especially at this lean harvest time

    Fresh young lettuce is truly great. I have a short row of Short Stuff carrots coming up now myself. I can only hope mine do half as well as yours!

    I can't wait for that first green salad from the garden - yours looks delicious! Around here the lettuce seedlings are waiting to be transplanted - the weather just isn't cooperating.

    Yes, those carrots did look rather familiar, Michelle, but I take the view that they are better than no carrots !! And it is so good to have fresh lettuce again isn't it?
